OUR BLOG: SIMPLE SOLUTIONS FOR WELLNESS IN MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT!

Why Set Goals?

mind Mar 12, 2018

Obviously, when we set goals we hope to move in the direction that we desire instead of just drifting aimlessly.

Making vision boards, meditating on a regular basis, and writing down our hopes and dreams can help us focus on our top goals and priorities.

I usually take time around my birthday or in September to think about where I would like to be in the next six months.  I never got into the New Year’s resolution thing, but I am an oddity that way.  Resolutions make me nervous, so I avoid them.  I feel like it puts too much pressure on a person.

Focus is key to setting and attaining a goal. We can’t be all things, to all people, all the time. Health and fitness is a top priority for me along with my family and helping others by sharing mind/body and spiritual wellness.

Of course, I have other responsibilities that sometimes get in the way of a straight path to achieving my goals but I always get back on track. A little self understanding and allowance for this is important. Finding a balance between pushing to achieve a goal and appreciating our day to day roles will make for a much happier, and healthier person.

Try to start with a reasonable number of goals.  I like three but what else would you expect from the founder of a site called “Trio”.  I stick to family first, health, and then spreading my message of wellness.  If I am squared away on them, I might add writing or planning a trip.

Goals need to be broken down into manageable pieces.  I have been exercising regularly and watching what I eat for a long time so that habit helps me make smart choices most of the time.  I focus a bit more on this if I find myself getting a little out of shape or not planning healthy meals.  I even joined Weight Watchers a few times to put my needs in the forefront of my day when I found I was overwhelmed with doing things for others and not eating as consciously as I like.   I also wanted to check out the new program so that I could give my opinion of it to all of you. (I recommend it by the way)

My work goals are always harder for me to achieve as I can overwhelm myself with ideas.  A good way to avert this tendency is to work with an advisor, mentor or friend to help pick the most important areas to work on.  Asking for help is great if you can.  Goals change so reevaluate when appropriate and don't forget to honor and congratulate yourself when you meet one.
