The importance of getting your "house" in order
Mar 02, 2018I'm talking about the dirty business of life that people put out of their mind, don't want to talk about, and yet is of paramount importance.
The first dreaded necessity is having a Will. This can be done through a lawyer, an online business affairs company, such as LegalZoom, (I used for my trademark and they were great) or on your own by getting a book out of the library, preparing your will, and getting it notarized at your local post office.
This is not so much for your own piece of mind but for the people that you leave behind. My beloved uncle passed away suddenly from a heart attack and to watch my cousins go through the piles of papers and receipts he left behind was heartbreaking.
The second order of business is the financial state of your “house.” Do you have a budget and know where most of your money is going? What is the plan for retirement if indeed you are going to retire? Do you have an emergency fund? This is tough stuff and should be carefully thought out with your family and financial advisor if you have one.
An easier issue, but always problematic, is an organizing system for all the papers that come into your home. I was taught to have three piles. The first is for filing, the second is for things to take care of, and the third is to discard. (Everyone's favorite) It’s simple and easy if you stay on top of it, though still not fun.
As far as organizing the home, there is a terrific website called Flylady that puts things into baby steps. My sister raves about athomewithnikki.com. I moved to a smaller and older home with little storage so have become more of a minimalist as a result. Makes it easier to dust, too. :)
So, why does a Mind/body/spirit website dwell into these matters?
When people have unfinished business, piles of stuff everywhere, and a disorganized home life, there is little to no ability to have success attaining, and maintaining, a wellness lifestyle. It’s that simple.
As always, please let me know if you have any hints and tips that you would like to share with our community.
