Steps to building a healthier immune system.
Mar 06, 2020We are all concerned about the flu season and now the dreaded coronavirus. In this post, I wish to share some basic ways to strengthen your immune system, in addition to some recommendations from the Center for Disease Control. The CDC is asking us to take known precautions such as washing hands frequently, avoiding large crowds and covering your mouth or nose if you sneeze. It's smart to take it a step further and use a barrier when grasping doorknobs and staying at least 6 feet away from someone with flu-like symptoms. Please remember to wipe down your cell phones. I can only imagine what germs harbor on something that's put down on counters and held in our hands so much.
Now is the time to tighten up on your healthy eating plan. I stocked up on fruits and veggies last week and made sure my kids had enough servings. I'm happy to say that all but the asparagus has been eaten! I also have extra vitamin C and have not put junk food in my home. My daughter and I have a hard time resisting even when we know better. Alcohol consumption should be limited too, of course.
Our family has started to read more at night and turn down devices so that our sleep can be deeper. It seems to be working even if we are going through withdrawal. This is also not the time to skip your movement programs. (I'm off for a quick workout before I get my daughter from school in just a few minutes). Regular exercise is a great immunity booster!
Finally, if you can meditate, laugh, visit loved ones, or just curl up on the couch and enjoy a good movie, now is the time. Stress-reducing techniques are so important when we are doing our best to stay healthy.
I wish you and yours lots of good health, happiness, and love during this scary time.
Yours in fitness,
Jamie
