The brain is a wonderful and awe inspiring organ!

How do we maintain it throughout life and what are its parts?

Critical thinking

The Frontal cortex is responsible for critical thinking and decision making. It is the center of judgment, impulse control and social behavior. Many people are starting to believe that too much screen time has an effect on this area and will make it difficult to control one's attention and focus. Dopamine, a feel good chemical that gets released with certain types of stimulation, plays a part in our inability to stop doing something that we enjoy.

The frontal cortex can be strengthened with complex levels of thinking. Activities that work with planning, sequencing and reasoning help to develop it.

Memory

The temporal lobe is the center for memory. By engaging in brain-stimulating activities, it is possible to re-establish old connections between brain cells. Playing Trivia games and writing things down help keep memory sharp.

Word skill:

Word skill is the duty of the Parietal lobe. Here we deal with language skills, encourage word usage, and recognize letter patterns; All important in good communication.

 Visual perception:

The Occipital lobe is responsible for visual perception and is located in the rear of the brain. Skills that shift the orientation of objects in your mind and force you to quickly recognize shapes and colors will keep this area healthy.

Coordination:

The Cerebellum is located at the base of the brain is responsible for coordination. Fun activities like playing with a yo-yo, learning how to juggle, or dancing will help with this skill.

The trio method's philosophy of mind, body, and spiritual wellness places a great value on understanding the mind.  Focus, attitude, and the ability to set and achieve goals, all start with a healthy mindset.  I believe that a little anatomical understanding can't hurt, as well.  :)
